Columbus Protest

Posted in Life in General, Pictures, School, Stupidity by aliencam | 2 Comments »

Okay, I usually try to keep a civil tone and convey intelligence in my writing on this blog, but for this post I am not even going to bother.  I was walking out of the MU after lunch and I saw this:

general picture of the Columbus protest...

Columbus was a Killer!

I’m sorry if I offend any readers who may have an aversion to historical facts, but this is absolutely ridiculous.  A protest against Columbus.  They make no mention of Columbus Day (although the protest was likely planned for this particular October 13 too make a statement) all they do is protest that Columbus was a killer.

This really does not make sense.  As far as I know, Columbus was not a particularly violent individual… (I am referring to in North America only, not Hispanola where he ruled tyrannically and tortured the natives to keep control) Maybe some of this anger should be directed towards those who directly killed natives in the countries they occupied?  Where is the hate for the conquistadors, the missionaries in south/central America, and the southwestern United States? Most of the death was initially caused by diseases the Europeans brought with them, so why not protest smallpox? Or, if causing this kind of death indirectly is actually something worth protesting, then why aren’t there protests against the following; Oppenheimer, who supervised the construction of the first Atomic Bombs; Henry Ford, who made automobiles available to the public, which now cause about 400,000 deaths yearly; (hey! this is related to today’s subject!) the INDIANS OF CENTRAL AND NORTHERN AMERICA for “inventing” and passing on to the Europeans the habits of smoking tobacco and other things, which contributes to 2.5 MILLION DEATHS  PER YEAR worldwide.  (okay, even I will admit that number sounds really high, let’s go with the CDC’s more reasonable number of 434,000 in the US[1])

Here are the other two pictures I took of this fantastic display of stupidity:

Columbus = Cultural Genocide!!!

Columbus = Cultural Genocide!!!

"Die! Die! Die!" -Fake Columbus

"Die! Die! Die!" -Fake Columbus

The second picture above shows the little skit they were putting on.  It involved a girl dressed as a stereotypical indian (let’s call her Sohcoatoa, Pocahontas’ sister  for the sake of bad math jokes) dancing and chanting, and then “Columbus?” (the girl dressed in a top hat and a vynl sign reading “united we stand”, white face makeup, and makeup blood all over her mouth) beats her down and yells “Die! Die! Die!” at her. The signs read “Columbus= cultural genocide!” “Columbus was a killer!” and “The 1st world war started in 1492!”.

Really, I don’t have anything to say about this but “lol.”

Dorm room.

Posted in Life in General by aliencam | 1 Comment »

So I moved into my dorm last wednesday, and I think I have it pretty well set up now.  I still have a few things left to do, but here are some pictures of my room.

Here is a picture of pretty much everything that I brought with me to school.  The only things not included in the picture are my laptop, and everything that I carry on my person.

Above is my room before I moved anything in or moved around any of the furniture.

Above this is my desk after moving in.  Because I didn’t bring much, I was able to fit everything into drawers. I have since moved the plants off of my desk (they were right by the ionic air purifier, which lets out enough ozone to hurt the plants) and moved them to the other side of the room.  They get more sun over there anyway.

And this picture is of the view off of the balcony.  I know it looks pretty bad, but at least it is a balcony, and there is a little bit of a better view to the left and right of the camera’s viewing area.
